Focus on Excellence strives to teach our scholars self-sufficiency ,self-control and self-reliance through the challenges of travel and personal growth. Rising sophomores, juniors and seniors with a GPA of 3.5 or higher participate in a two to three week summer adventure.  Adventurers discover new skills while hiking, camping, climbing, rafting and completing community service projects.

Adventures are provided by Bold Earth Teen Adventures (www.boldearth.com). They have provided teen camping experiences to over 15,000 teens for over 39 years.

Rising Seniors who have a GPA of over 3.75 and have already completed a summer adventure within the continental U.S. may choose from several foreign destinations.

Optional alternative programs include:

  • Summer school at Exeter Academy (New Hampshire)
  • Summer school at Cushing Academy (Massachusetts)
  • Summer school at Choate Rosemary Hall (Connecticut)
  • The Experiment in International Living (Overseas)
  • AFS International (Overseas)

All of these alternative programs offer some financial assistance and Focus on Excellence will provide $3,500 towards the cost. However, students and their parents are on their own with regard to admission, arranging financial assistance, and travel arrangements.
